The Cotton Bowl Athletic Association celebrated Black History Month via its website and social media platforms. This year's celebration recognized a seminal moment in Cotton Bowl Classic history. This year marks 75 years since the 12th Classic in 1948 featured the first integrated football game in Texas and the second integrated football game in the south between Penn State and SMU.
Â
Penn State's Wallace Triplett and Dennis Hoggard made history and changed the landscape of college football on January 1, 1948, becoming the first two Black players to play in the Classic. Triplett scored a touchdown in the game, while Hoggard almost caught the game-winning score in the 13-13 tie with the Mustangs.
