DAN S. PETTY SCHOLAR-ATHLETE AWARD
Biography
Michigan State fifth-year senior tight end Paul Lang enjoyed his best season on the field during his final year of wearing the Green and White. Not only did Lang have a career-high 10 receptions for 112 yards, the coaching staff also cited his improved blocking skills as one of the reasons why Michigan State featured a potent rushing attack that helped win the Spartans a Big Ten Championship in 2015 and earn a berth in the College Football Playoff.
Lang was honored multiple times as a senior as an “unsung hero” for his role in key wins over Oregon, Michigan, Indiana and Maryland. He was also named the team’s co-offensive lineman of the week in the victory over Central Michigan.
Lang excelled in the classroom throughout his career. He became just one of 22 players in Michigan State football history to earn Academic All-Big Ten honors four times. The Pittsburgh native spent 2 1/2 weeks in Australia (June-July 2015) participating in MSU's study abroad International Summer Sports Program. He earned his bachelor’s degree in economics and graduated in December 2015.
